Chest-Heated Ironer Waxing and Maintenance
Waxing (also referred to as "applying wax") the chest-type flatwork ironer is a crucial daily maintenance task. It not only cleans the ironing chest surface and ensures the flatness of the linens being processed, but also reduces friction and static, thereby extending the service life of both the ironing felt and the chest surface.
The following outlines the correct waxing procedures and key considerations, compiled based on guidelines from various professional equipment manufacturers and industry associations.
If the chest surface is soiled, gently wipe it with a cleaning agent or a scouring pad to remove dust and impurities, thereby preventing dirt from compromising the waxing results.
After cleaning, wipe the surface dry with a dry cloth to ensure it is completely dry.
Open the steam valve and preheat the ironer until the chest temperature reaches 80°C to 160°C (depending on the model).
Notice: Avoid overheating to prevent wax from burning or emitting harmful fumes.
1.Use a waxing cloth. Spread 60 to 150 grams of powder wax evenly inside the cloth's pocket or fold.
2.Set the machine to a low speed. Feed the waxing cloth into the machine as flat and straight as possible.
3.Run the waxing cloth through the ironer at least 3 to 5 times. This ensures the wax is evenly distributed across the entire surface of the heated chest.

Notes: • The wax must be wrapped inside the wax cloth. Please don't apply wax directly onto the heated chests. • Be sure to turn off the vacuum dehumidification, otherwise wax will clog the ironer felt pad and the wax will be sucked into the pipes. • Only apply wax when the machine is at full heat. If the wax is applied to a cold machine, it will gum up the padding and create a sticky mess. |

After finishing waxing, feed a clean, damp cotton cloth (or a specialized cleaning cloth) through the machine to remove excess wax. This prevents "wax spots" from transferring to your linens.
Key Precautions
•Timing & Frequency
Start of Shift: Wax the machine every morning before starting production.
During Operation: If you hear a "squeaking" sound or notice linens pulling/skewing, it's time to re-wax.
End of Shift: It is often recommended to wax one last time before shutting down to protect the chest surface from moisture/oxidation overnight.
• Wax Quality: Always use high-temperature professional ironer wax. Never use paraffin or candle wax, as these have low flash points and can create a fire hazard.
• Check the Ironer Padding: Ensure your roller padding and tapes are in good condition. Over-waxing can cause the padding to lose its "grip" and breathability, leading to poor drying results.
• Safe Operation: During operation, strictly refrain from placing hands near the rotating drum or the feed opening. When applying wax, maintain full concentration to prevent the wax cloth from drifting off-track or becoming creased.
• Wax Quantity: Don't apply too much wax. Over waxing will cause the wax to transfer onto the linens. If you find over waxing, you can run a useless linen or clean pad several times to bring out the wax.
• Wax Cloth Placement: After cooling, always hang the cloth on a rack or spread it out flat on a clean area. Please don't fold, otherwise the wax will become stiff after cooling, making it very difficult to use next time or causing the wax cloth to be directly scrapped.
Hongkong Xinyun offers professional powder wax. It is made from pure plant extracts, very environmentally friendly, and it has a good oil content with no residue, so it won't cause damage to padding felt due to residue.
